 1. Genode OS release 24.08
 --------------------------

Moving forward at steady pace, we published Genode's 3rd release
of this year by the end of August.

   https://genode.org/documentation/release-notes/24.08

This version puts much emphasis to the tracking of ported 3rd-
party software. Most prominently, we added support for the Qt6
application framework, which supersedes the time-tested Qt5. The
upgrade is accompanied with a revised build-system integration,
which boost the productivity when developing Qt applications for
Genode. As another crucial type of 3rd-party software, device
drivers and protocol stacks ported from the Linux kernel received
the update to kernel version 6.6.47. So Genode users can enjoy
current-generation commodity software and drivers across all
 kernels supported by the framework.

For application developers, the version 24.08 introduces a new
way to combine Genode's software development kit (Goa SDK) with
a remote test machine running Sculpt OS. Within a few seconds,
any machine compatible with Sculpt OS can be turned into a remote
 testing target now.

 2. New Genode Community Forum
 -----------------------------

Until now, the Genode community used to gather on the project's
mailing list and the public issue tracker. However, those channels
are highly technical and rather formal. To lower the barrier of
participation, and for giving users a place to share questions,
ideas, and projects in a casual setting, a new public forum has
 been started:

   https://genode.discourse.group

Please drop by and join the fun!

As the forum is a place for users, it is moderated by users.
Thanks a lot to Spencer and Cedric for constituting the initial
 moderation team!

 3. Hands-on Sculpt-OS Workshop at C3D2
 --------------------------------------

The enthusiastic feedback we received at recent events like
FrOSCon suggests that Sculpt OS might be ready to be picked up
by a wider circle of people. Up to now, even highly technical
communities are still largely unaware of Genode and Sculpt OS.
It is about time to change that! On that account, we will hold
a hands-on workshop at the Dresden branch of the Chaos Computer
Club (C3D2) at the beginning of November. Should you be curious
about Sculpt OS and happen to be around Dresden in the evening
of November 5, mark the date.
